The RCS-985RS/SS are complete protection solution designed for the appliations to medium to steam turbine generator, water turbine generator and gas turbine generator with small to medium capacity. It adopts dual CPU configuration for fault detector element and protection logic to enhance operation accuracy. The RCS-985RS/SS are fully compatible with IEC 61850 communication with an additional communication unit.

Monitoring and metering

  • Event Recorder including 256 statuses change of binary input reports, 64 self-supervision reports and 64 operating reports.
  • Disturbance recorder including 64 fault reports, and 8 waveforms. The maximal record time is up to 15s for single fault waveform. (The file format of disturbance recorder is compatible with international COMTRADE file.)

Communication

  • The hardware of CPU system comprises of one microprocessor and one DSP. The two processors can operate in parallel with a fast 14bits A/D converter. Logic calculation and protection calculation are executed by the 32- bit microprocessor and the DSP separately.
  • The protection module is completely separated from other modules and is independent of communication network.
  • On the premise of 24 samples per cycle, all data measurement, calculation and logic discrimination can be completed within one sampling period. The event recording and protection logic calculation are completed simultaneously.
  • The RCS-985RS/SS provide complete independent protection functions which can be enabled or disabled freely.
  • The independent fault detectors in the CPU processor can provide realtime supervision of tripping outputs. The relay will drive the tripping output only when the fault detectors in the CPU module and in the MON module operate simultaneously.
  • The connector type can be selected as plug in/out terminal connector or screw terminal connector. The unique plug in/out terminal connectors from the relay rear panel to the terminal blocks on the rack or cabinet makes the onsite commissioning and replacement much easier than the traditional screw terminals when you do the commissioning.
